What whichscene keeps about you, and why. It is operated by whichscene. Questions about your data: [email protected].
What stays on your device
Your browser keeps a random player ID and your progress: best level and score, your streak, today's result, the name you typed for Duel and Party, and the sound setting. We use no cookies. Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it.
What our server records
- What you do in the game, with the time: your guesses, skips, when you pick 4 choices, your Too easy / Fair / Too hard taps, your Today's scene result, and the Duel and Party games you start or join. It is tied to the random player ID, not to your name.
- The name you type for Duel or Party. The other players in that game see it.
- What you write when you report a problem, and errors the game hits on your phone (the error message and the screen).
- We don't store your IP address. To stop abuse (for example someone guessing game codes one after another) we keep a scrambled version of it, which can't be turned back into the address.
Analytics
To see how the game is used, our server sends a few events to PostHog, an analytics service in the United States: a visit, a Classic run started or ended, Today's scene finished, a Duel or Party joined or played, a clip rated, a problem reported, an error. Each event carries the random player ID and your country; the visit also says which of our links you came in by (for example whichscene.com/tt for TikTok). No IP address and no name are sent.
Who else handles data
The game runs on a server rented from Hetzner in the United States, and reaches you through Cloudflare; the fonts come from Google Fonts. Each of them sees your IP address to deliver the pages, clips and fonts. We don't sell data or show ads, and we don't track you on other sites.
Why, and for how long
We use this data to run the game, keep it fair, fix problems and decide which clips to make next (for players in the EU, our legitimate interest). Game records are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted or reduced to totals that can't be linked to anyone.
Seeing or deleting your data
You can ask what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by writing to [email protected]. Tell us roughly when you played and, if you used one, the name you typed for Duel or Party, so we can find your records. If you live in the EU you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
whichscene is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
